Best Gaming Laptop Big Screen
If previously we reviewed 14-inch gaming laptop products (You can read the article here: Gaming Laptops 14 Inch: XIDU Touch Screen Laptop 14.1 inch 2 in 1 Laptop Intel Review), then now we will review one of the big screen gaming laptops with 17 inches, Dell XPS 17 (9720).
Do you need a gaming laptop big screen? Dell XPS 17 (9720) is the computer you’re looking for. The screen on this computer is 3840 by 2400, which is rather impressive.
Dell’s premium XPS laptops frequently stop by our testing stations, and the XPS 17 is up for an update in 2022. Similar to last year’s model, the new XPS 17 model 9720 (starts at $1,849; $3,049 as tested) uses Intel’s 12th Generation “Alder Lake” processors.
In the test configuration, the Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics and an optional 4K touch panel are housed in this small, upscale-feeling chassis together with a ton of RAM and storage. Although this combination is pricey, the end product is a big-screen gaming laptop for heavy users with few real rivals.
A CPU upgrade isn’t worthwhile if you have a recent XPS 17, but individuals with larger money looking for a brand-new laptop can’t do much better.

Design: Adhering to the XPS Style
We won’t spend too much time discussing the design again because we’ve seen many XPS laptops before, and the construction of the new XPS 17 is the same as before.
This is actually a good thing because it features one of our favorite designs and excellent construction. But there isn’t much new to mention because it essentially duplicates the design from the prior edition.
Its casing is made of aluminum, which has a premium feel and sets it apart from the countless plastic laptops out there.
The high-quality construction is still present when you open the clamshell, from the carbon-fiber keyboard deck to the brilliant display.
This is consistently one of the nicest all-purpose laptops available, and that is upheld here. This laptop’s design quality is the closest to Apple’s flagship if you would otherwise choose a MacBook.
The XPS 17 weighs 5.34 pounds and has dimensions of 0.77 by 14.7 by 9.8 inches (HWD). (At 4.87 pounds, the non-touch version weighs less.)
Although there are some exceptionally light 17-inch laptops available, most are in this weight range; screen size is the first consideration, and most laptop manufacturers work to make the device as portable as possible from there.
Display and Connectivity Lead the Way with 4K and Thunderbolt
However, the presentation still merits its own discussion. The fact that it routinely ranks among the finest displays we’ve seen on testing benches makes it a key selling feature for this laptop.
The screen appears larger than it actually is due to the thin bezels (referred to by Dell as InfinityEdge), and at 17 inches, it is already spacious.
Due to the 16:10 aspect ratio, rather than the more customary 17.3 inches, the screen is exactly 17 inches across.
The sleek glass surface lends an appealing polish to the specific model because it is the 4K touch option (albeit it is reflected in the incorrect lighting). Unexpectedly for this kind of laptop, there is no OLED panel choice, which is disappointing.
Regarding connectivity, this laptop is quite contemporary and small, with plenty of space for connectors.
This indicates that the majority of the ports are Thunderbolt 4 compatible USB-C ports, with two on the left and two on the right. The headphone jack and SD card slot are similarly located on the right edge, and charging is handled via the USB-C ports.
